Despite
the area across the railway line and immediately below the
Castle Rock being padlocked off at the last moment, this
OASIS annual event was, once again, a great success. Runners
from 19 teams, comprising 11 competitive Relay Teams and
8 Fun Run Teams, were undeterred by the Scottish haar, an
annoying feature of Edinburgh's summer weather! This year
the first leg runners were started off by Tom Cuthell,
the Minister of St Cuthbert's and, once again, Adrian
Stott, of Run and Become, was our expert time keeper.
Our sincere thanks goes to Tom and Adrian and also to the
team of no less than 3 additional helpers from Run and Become,
to Hilary Cowie of Burness for acting as our first aider
and, last but not least, to the three lovely ladies of St
Cuthbert's for providing a lovely spread of filled rolls,
biscuits, juice and tea/coffee.
Lots
of stewards and supporters joined the runners at the Golden
Gate below St Cuthbert's and cheered them on in good style.
There was an especially warm welcome for two runners from
Glasgow who formed part of one of the teams from Biggart
Baillie. The atmosphere was friendly throughout with each
runner being clapped and cheered into making a final sprint
towards the finishing line.
Teams
were entered this year from Davidson
Chalmers, Burness, Standard
Life, Wood Mackenzie,
Newton Investment, Biggart
Baillie and Shepherd + Wedderburn.
So how did the teams fare? All the results are published

All
enjoyed the evening. Many were able to stay on for refreshments
in the Lindisfarne Room at St Cuthbert's. When all the fine
calculating was over, Tom Cuthell was able to present the
Quaich to Standard Life D (Team 11) who will also enjoy
a lunch at The Point Hotel. We warmly applauded Standard
Life D, and also Philip Purves of Standard Life who was
the fastest "boy" (4.44) and Karen Vidler and
Angela Wood, both also of Standard Life, who tied for the
title of being the fastest "girl" both recording
a time of 6.03.
The
great majority of teams this year ran for a charity of their
choice and once we hear from each team captain how much
money was raised by their team we will announce here the
team which raised the most money for charity.
See
you all next year and remember, if you are comparing this
year's timings with last year's, that this year's closure
of part of the course had the effect of shortening the course
by some 30 metres!
Information
that became available later in the summer:
CONGRATULATIONS
TO THE TEAM THAT RAISED THE MOST FOR CHARITY
This
year both Relay Teams and Fun Run teams were "running
their hearts out" for charity. It was, however, a Fun
Run team which triumphed raising the fine total of £433.09
for Cancer Research UK. This Fun Run team was Standard
Life's "The 40 Minute Milers" and we warmly
congratulate them on this magnificent effort. The team comprised
Jane Walker, Joe Benbow, Richard Martin and Terry Fallows
and we hope very much that they enjoy their well earned
lunch at The Point Hotel.
Overall
the sponsorship money raised by the 15 participating teams
totalled £1482.95 - an excellent effort. As well as
Cancer Research UK , these were the charities people were
running for: Fresh Start, Sick Kids, Children's Hospice,
Scottish Community Foundation, Oasis, and Leukemia Research..
We look
forward to awarding the Fun Run Trophy to the Standard
Life's "40 Minute Milers" at the OASIS Community
Carol Service in December.
