on our first www. or Wednesday Worship With Dot
More
than a dozen of us sat down together in the peaceful St
Cuthbert's Anam Chara Chapel (Gaelic for "Soul Friend"
or even "Boon Companion"). Ruth Gillett, who works
out at the Gyle and had taken a day off to help prepare
for this occasion, introduced us to this "oasis"
of a lunch hour, a time for reflection, reflective worship
even. This can be undemanding, we discovered, and stilling
of the mind, heart, soul and body - a veritable haven of
refreshment.
Dorothy
Neilson (the Dot!) helped us to focus on what a varied and
stunning creation we have all around us. Ruth and Dorothy
had prepared some exquisite "prompts" for our
eyes: pebbles, flowers, shells, nuts and grapes even! We
were invited to not only see and contemplate, but taste
and appreciate
We dispersed
all over the church and enjoyed the calming music played
to us as we stood, sat or even lay down in the soft light
of one of the most beautiful arrangements of candles you
have ever seen. How de-stressing and deeply connecting this
was. But all too soon our time of peaceful reflection was
at an end and we went back to our offices, refreshed, reinvigorated
and hopefully noticeably calmer and more helpful to those
around us.
Let
the word go out: the next www. occasions are 15th October,
19th November and 17th December. Once you've tried two or
three such www.'s you'll be hooked
and maybe lunchtimes
will never be the same again.
