Feedback on Inter-Office Quiz Night - January 22

Well, we had a record number of entries this year: 23 teams. Perhaps word got out that a certain Sharon Knott, professional caterer, was going to produce the best carrot soup and the biggest array of rolls in Edinburgh! Offices taking part were Turcan Connell, Jeffrey Crawford, Job Centre Plus, Ledingham Chalmers, McKerrell Brown & Gray, Newton Investment Management, Standard Life, State Street, and Stuart & Stuart.

Our thanks to all. We are so pleased that so many were able to come along and enjoy themselves. 100 people crammed into the Lammermuir Lounge at St Cuthbert’s on the evening. After our delicious meal, Colin Drummond of Citibank took us through several rounds of questions, taxing and amusing. He was ably assisted by his colleague, Kevin Woods. OASIS and all present were and are most grateful to these men who, for your interest, had to return to Freuchie in Fife and Shotts respectively – so we are all the more grateful to them for their giving so generously of their skills and time.

And the winners?

3rd equal: Standard Life and Turcan Connell. Turcan Connell were last year’s winners – and runners-up to boot, so it was good of them to give others a shot at the Quaich this year!

2nd: Jeffrey Crawford

1st: Newton Investment Management

I’m sure you’ll join OASIS in congratulating Newton on their fine achievement, and also these three other teams who acquitted themselves so well.

If I may be allowed a “person of the night”, I’ll pick Stewart Auld of Newton

a) because he was in the winning team

b) because he was the man who memorably played the character part of the shepherd - speaking best Aberdeenshire doric – in the OASIS Community Carol Service a year ago, and

c) because on the evening of the Quiz he had to leave before the results were known and declared and will have had his team mates spinning him a yarn next morning about how they didn’t win, before (hopefully) coming clean with him and agreeing to share the prize with him – a meal at the Point Hotel.

Congratulations to all, and see you next year!
