LIFE:
What's the point?
|
|
Satisfied with life...
or do you feel you're missing out?
Happy at work...
or is it all a bit of a grind?
Fulfilled by your
relationships...
or do they just run skin deep?
Content with your
lot...
or are you always wanting more?
Ever wondered if
others feel the same way?

LIFE:
Keep to the point |
| The
next Business Alpha Edinburgh course will start
on Thursday 8 September 2005 in the Roxburghe Hotel, Charlotte Square, Edinburgh. The guest speaker at that "taster" lunchtime will be Cameron Stout who won Big Brother two years ago.
The week before that on Thursday 1 September and in the same hotel, there will be a pre-Business Alpha lunchtime with another guest speaker: Tom Wright, the Bishop of Durham, known to many for his appearances on television and his popular books. He will address the subject: The Da Vinci Code - Fact and Fiction?

| Our
first suggestion for a good post Alpha course - A Life
Worth Living |
| You
may be interested to know that after each Business
Alpha course OASIS,
who sponsor Business Alpha Edinburgh, run 'A Life
Worth Living' (LWL) course for people who have done
Alpha - for Christians and non-Christians alike.
The Life Worth Living course also provides an opportunity
for anyone at all to join a spiritually refreshing
group. Participants meet over lunch in the Lindisfarne
Room at St Cuthbert's Church to discuss a most interesting
book by Nicky Gumbel. The book - which is provided
- is a study of Paul's letter to the Philippians.
(For
information on the last LWL course click read
the LWL diary.)

| Our second suggestion for a good post Alpha course - the Christian Traditions course |
| You may like to attend a series of talks giving an overview of some of the main Christian Churches / Traditions in Scotland today. OASIS, who as mentioned above sponsor Business Alpha Edinburgh, run a series of lunchtimes that cover Churches from the Orthodox Church to the "New" or "House" Churches. For the 2005 course, click Christian Traditions.
Here are some notes from that course:
Week one: The Orthodox Church
Week two: The Roman Catholic Church
Week three: The Scottish Episopal Church
Week four: The Church of Scotland
Week five: The Free Church of Scotland |

| Feedback
from the Course |
"I'd
like to thank Business Alpha for an inspirational away-day
yesterday. I came away uplifted and ready to make my journey
towards understanding faith and what it means for me. All
I can say is that I'll pray for more power and energy for
the Business Alpha course so that others may also benefit
from the warmth and kindness it has shown to me."
From M - a man on the course. |
"The
Business Alpha Course was excellent. It was ideal for me
as it related to investigating the concept of faith and
what it meant to me in the modern world and working environment.
I found the course open and friendly and it was a great
way to spend a lunchtime discussing the more spiritual side
of life . I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone interested
in life's bigger questions and how these questions may relate
to them in their everyday life - well worthwhile!"
From M - as above. |
"You
said in your invitation that no-one had ever regretted going
on an away-day. I am sure after last Sunday that must remain
very true. I found it very helpful in trying to think through
how I want to live my life. I found the talks and the group
chats particularly useful. I was kept wide awake and interested
throughout the day, a definite achievement. Many thanks
for all the energy and effort put into the day."
From I - a lady on the course. |
"Normal
church going doesn't always seem to offer the chance to
explore the spiritual side of religion. I found in Alpha
the chance to discuss spiritual issues with other interested
people without the presence of embarrassment or evangelism.
Through this I personally have learnt to set aside a quiet
time each day (for me it involves switching off the car
radio for half an hour on my daily commute) to think about
the day ahead, the good things that surround me and people
that I know with troubles. I find it difficult still to
express, but I have found myself coping better in my daily
life and projecting a more positive attitude to others since
I introduced this daily conversation with God."
From I - as above. |
"I
found Business Alpha to be a fantastic tool with which I
was able to explore and investigate the many questions I
had about the Christian faith. I always felt I could ask
any questions I wanted, and my hosts never made me feel
that I might be condemned or belittled for asking either
stupid or difficult questions. It has been a very positive
experience from beginning to end and I actively looked forward
to each Thursday lunchtime for the talk, the chat, the questions
and the discussions. Even if I hadn't been interested in
Christianity, It would still have enjoyable just for the
chance to have an open and intelligent discussion over lunch!"
From M - another man on the course. |
"I've
done an Alpha before although I'm already a regular church
attender. I got so much out of the relaxed atmosphere and
thoughtful contributions. I found practical help too , such
as the "formula" for daily prayer - ACTS."
(ED:
ACTS stands for Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication)
From R - a lady on the course |
"The
most enjoyable aspects of the course were hearing other
people's views and learning how one's faith can be part
of one's working life as well as personal life. The quality
of the speakers was excellent."
From R - as above |
"Business
Alpha experiences from the recent course strike similar
chords with my own experiences from the first run. In the
aftermath of the challenging discussions and searches, valued
friendships have since emerged which make for happy and
caring reunions. If you have enjoyed Business Alpha then
don't wait to come along to the forthcoming Life Worth Living
course where the smaller and less formal format will allow
you to share your views more fully .. a great tonic to the
spirit and mind!"
From K - another man on the course. |
