OASIS is a non-profit organisation serving the
business community and exploring connections
between business and spirituality. The
organisation is sponsored by the Parish Church of
St Cuthbert in partnership with St John's Church
and St Andrew's & St George's West Church: the three congregations form Edinburgh City Centre Churches TOGETHER. It
operates as a partnership of business and church
leaders who seek to support individuals and groups
in the business community.
After a few years of relative
inactivity OASIS was relaunched last Autumn. Events run since then by St Cuthbert's minister, Rev
David Denniston, and a dedicated team of volunteers
have included a highly successful evening to benefit Fresh Start's work for the homeless people of Edinburgh and the ever-popular Inter Office Quiz Night. Additionally, in December, OASIS played a leading role in the Edinburgh Nativity Play staged in Festival Square and nearer Christmas, in partnership with business matters, welcomed to St Cuthberts a huge congregation to participate in the annual Community Carol Service.
Tony Bryer, our TOGETHER Workplace Chaplain, was a speaker at this year’s first OASIS Lunchtime Seminar hosted by our friends at Anderson Strathern on 22nd February. He presented his views on the value of chaplaincy being available to people in workplaces all over the city centre. Those attending were given examples of situations in which Tony was able to support, guide, or simply listen to the concerns of clients. The speaker at the second OASIS Lunchtime Seminar on Friday 23 March, kindly hosted by the Clydesdale Bank, was our own Ben Williams. He explored Career Self Management by discussing ways and means of optimising career opportunities, even in a difficult economy. The next event is the popular OASIS Relay Race and Fun Run on Thursday evening 31 May in West Princes Street Gardens.

In the meanwhile, David continues to be available
to any (of any faith or none) in the business
community who would want to talk with someone.
Along with others in the St Cuthbert’s and
TOGETHER ministry teams, David is happy to 'Be
There'
and St Cuthbert's (along with St John's) remains
open during the day for those seeking a place of
peace, prayerfulness and sanctuary.
On the first Wednesday of each month (except
January) between September and June a lunchtime
'soul space'
is offered in the main sanctuary of St Cuthbert's Church between 1.00pm and 1.30pm.

for details of the programme for 2011 - 2012. And if you find you can't get to it at lunchtime, there will be more 'soul space' in the evening. The evening soul space is 'open house' between 5.30pm and 8.30pm, to allow people to come and go, as and when they please. There will be a few minutes of optional, quiet worship offered at 7.00pm and 8.30pm.
